Description: In this program we will discuss the impacts that Social Media has in employer practices including hiring, supervision, discipline, and termination.  We will discuss best practices for effectively using Social Media as a tool in each of these aspects.  

Objectives: Our learning objectives will be two-fold:

  1. Developing an internal HR policy related to the use of Social Media.
  2. Avoiding pitfalls in the use of Social Media related to discrimination/harassment claims.  

HRCI/SHRM = 1.5 credits

About our speaker:


Mariah Passarelli is a Member at the law firm Cozen O’Connor.  Mariah focuses her practice on a variety of labor and employment law and higher education matters, from employment contracts to complex litigation. Mariah handles matters in administrative proceedings, state, and federal courts. She has represented employers and institutions in claims under Title IX, Title VII, 42 U.S.C. § 1981, PHRA, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, NLRA, FCRA and OSHA, and she has defended universities, hospitals and oil and gas companies in state-wide class and collective actions. Mariah also counsels companies and institutions on litigation avoidance, anti-discrimination, and anti-bullying and she reviews and drafts employee handbooks and personnel policies.
